A rather short girl for her age, Aiyanna barely brushes 4'11". With a mother of 5'6" and a father standing at 5'10", Anna finds this rather puzzling - and endlessly infuriating! Regardless of the vast amounts of food she consumes in a hope that the "growth spurt" she's been waiting for will finally occur, Aiyanna remains hopelessly petite and (much to the annoyance of her female friends) enduringly slender.
Aiyanna has trained herself to become as objective as she feels possible for a human. The advantage of this is that she has an enhanced ability to view and assess certain sticky situations, to break down an argument in her mind and to choose (however silently) the side she feels will be most beneficial to herself and others, emotions aside. The negative of this, of course, is that she can oftentimes across as cold and distant, and finds it difficult to make friends with others (although the latter she doesn't particularly see as a problem - Aiyanna prefers to be alone, and fears becoming close to others).
Aiyanna is secretly a very emotional person, yet refuses to acknowledge this. When emotions arise within, she will either displace them, or displace herself. She is terrified of the concept of becoming (or being perceived as) a harebrained, emotional woman and if an argument flares up, she will remain silent (and often simply listen, noting the interaction out of interest; perhaps making a mental commentary). If ever she feels an unacceptable level of emotion creeping into her system, she will immediately remove herself from a situation. She craves self-control and calm at all times, and will simply not allow herself to feel otherwise. Nonetheless, despite the persistent rejection of her own emotions, Aiyanna identifies that is important to initiate and maintain relationships with others. She views the few friends she has as no more than a safety-net, saving her from looking abnormal, or standing out, and reserves very little true feeling or loyalty towards them.
Deep within Aiyanna is a yearning for someone intelligent and insightful that she can possess feelings for and who, in turn, will reserve similar feelings towards her (whether these be in the form of a great friendship, or otherwise). However, she will not allow herself to acknowledge this as a true (nor sensible) desire. She declines to believe she needs anyone but herself.

Amongst the subjects studied, was one Amahdahy ("Ama") Ahnisahoni: an extraordinarily beautiful 16-year-old girl Earlwood became immediately besotted with. Research aside, Earlwood became increasingly attached to the girl as the months went by, eventually throwing all professionalism to the wind and pulling her into his arms for the kiss he'd been dreaming of for weeks. Recognising the potential of this well-dressed, intelligent, clearly wealthy man, Kaya, Ama's mother (and only remaining family member), swiftly approached Earlwood and proposed the arrangement of a marriage, on the grounds that Amahdahy and herself would be guaranteed a good lifestyle. Earlwood agreed, and the couple were married in a traditional Native American ceremony the following week.
Earlwood returned to the Aurora Borealis Academy in September, but was met to such disapproval and condemnation for his actions that he took the decision to resign in '91, after 3 years of growing dislike from staff and students alike. Pregnant wife in tow, Aiyanna's father, mother and grandmother gathered their possessions and left for an old, country cottage just outside the sleepy village of Aveyron, France. Here, Aiyanna's elder brother, Alfred, was born (or "Tse", as her grandmother insisted). The family, with its new addition, enjoyed a peaceful, idyllic life in France for several years, Aiyanna's father providing an income with the books on Muggle Studies he had begun to write ("A World Without Magic: Living amongst the Muggles" and "Muggle Studies: The Essential Pocket Companion"). However, Aiyanna's mother was becoming increasingly restless with such a quiet, lulled existence that in spring '95 she insisted that they move again. Perhaps go travelling around the world, for a few months, she suggested. Inspired to base a new novel of personal experiences and memoirs on it, Aiyanna's father readily agreed.
From '95-'02, the family travelled globally. Born in the spring of '97 in a muggle hospital in Auckland, New Zealand (much to her father's delight), Aiyanna's first half-decade was a one of a vast melting pot of experiences. From Japan to Australia, Hong Kong to Ecuador, Aiyanna has, in fact, visited many a-place in her young life (although she can barely remember most places the family sojourned). Finally, at the dawn of the summer of '02, after years of attempting to home-school the children AND earn adequate income, the family once again decided to settle down into a permanent place of residence. The children were generally taught by their mother and grandmother, and this was beginning to prove difficult (particularly in Alfred's case).
Although Charles' books had done moderately well on the wizarding market, his audience was limited to those interested in the Muggle world. Previous funds had begun to dry up, and Alfred was soon to go to secondary school. Charles decided to put down roots in England, Alfred's education in mind. Under the request of Aiyanna's mother, the family settled down into a comfy, 4 bedroom townhouse in South Kensington, London - an aesthetically appealing area, albeit mainly populated by muggles (Aiyanna's father didn't mind this, although her brother did). The family spent two very content years there, Aiyanna's mother taking on the name "Vanessa", and Alfred being accepted into Hogwarts in 2003.
However, in 2004, a great family tragedy struck. Alfred had just spent his first year at Hogwarts (having been sorted into Gryffindor house) and had returned for the summer, exasperated at the thought of having to spend more than two months without magic (and equally exasperated that his little sister was aware of this). He had become even more confident and even more cocksure after his first year, and frequently spent hours at a time teasing and terrorising his younger sister out of sheer boredom. One warm summer evening on August 4th, 2004, Aiyanna erupted into tears as her brother taunted her with a rather large, rather hairy spider. Half-way through writing the final draft of his book, Aiyanna's father, frustrated by the sudden increase in volume, marched upstairs and gave his son a harsh talking-to. Fiesty and rebellious, Alfred stormed from the house. He didn't return. It was revealed the following day that Alfred was stabbed in the chest by a muggle on his way home, rushed to muggle hospital unconscious, and died early the following morning.
The whole family fell into collective shock. Not only had Alfred's attacker stabbed Alfred physically, but a great, gaping wound had pierced the soul of the small, closely-knit family. Slowly, Aiyanna watched as her parents fell apart: each and every day a struggle. Resurfacing from months of lonely, silent mourning, her mother (forever tempted by the invitations of men for her beauty, but never accepting them), began applying a thick layer of make-up every day, and making visits to male friends Aiyanna had never heard of before. Aiyanna's grandmother had taken to visiting the Catholic church every day, and her Father was generally found sedated in a drunken stupor, so Aiyanna was the only one to know of these "friends".
Aiyanna was left to her own devices, and much neglected by her parents after the death of their son. Her grandmother still provided attention and love, but as time gradually passed, it became clearer and clearer to Aiyanna that she had not only lost her brother to that senseless act of violence on August 4th, 2004 - she had lost her parents, too.
In 2008, Aiyanna received her letter of acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. However, long before this, she had come to despise her mother and grieve over the shadow of a man her father had become. In 2007, her parents separated and she was given the option of living with either her mother or her father. Despite how distant her father had become, he was the natural choice.
In the summer, Aiyanna now lives with her Father in a small, isolated cottage in Oxfordshire, a few miles out from the muggle village of Marsh Baldon. Her mother still occupies the townhouse in South Kensington. Bizarrely, her grandmother, Kaya, now lives with her man-friend, Fredrick Keilty, in Central London. A 69-year-old she met at a Church coffee morning. The couple form "a delightfully energetic pair of old codgers", if Aiyanna must say so herself.
The relationship Aiyanna now shares with her father is a tentative one. Aiyanna swings between empathy and annoyance at the shrivelled, lifeless old man her father has become. The area surrounding the cottage Aiyanna and her father occupy is picturesque, but Charles barely leaves the dark, cluttered corners of his office. The odour within the residence of generally one of Firewhisky tinged with sweat and smoke, and Aiyanna is glad to be left largely alone. Pages of her father's final draft still litter his dusty office desk. More than anything, Aiyanna lives for Hogwarts, now.

Seriously, though, your Forest reply was amazing. I felt all giddy just reading it, which is probably disturbing to most, given the content of that post. DS writers really are amazing, though, I tell you.
So now you're off to London in a couple days, right? To look at colleges for your brother? We'll miss you (again!) but I hope you have fun. :)
